In my view the key cities of Croatia are Split and Zagreb. I believe Mr Bishop is smart enough to know he can not be extradited from Croatia. But his personality is he wants to be around a wonderful culture where he can impress people with his knowledge of the world and his intelligence, where he can be looked up to where he is not challenged but that's not Zagreb or Split. He wanted to change himself into some type of European pseudo-diplomat/intellectual where he speaks and people listen as he sips his espresso. Don't get me wrong, Mr Bishop is very focused, intelligent and has a high level of determination - good traits in the average person. But he became controlling, self centered, impulsive and lacked the insight to overcome his bad traits even with psychiatric help for his anxiety/depression/temper/insomnia etc. Now when you work for the State Dept/Foreign Service Officer Foggy Bottom in Washington D.C, you are under a microscope. If you don't advance you will be heading for the door. Mr Bishop wasn't advancing because his career was spotted with bad evaluations/admonishments and reprimanded due to- " poor judgement, lack of flexibility and common sense, unable to train or supervise his staff, poor security practices ". Once he was too lazy to place classified documents in a safe..." too much bother ". He was prone to emotional outbursts, losing control... not a great trait for a Diplomat according to Mr R. Harrell, his State Dept co-worker.

Continue speculation with the Map...So for the map I arbitrarily placed the East side of the circle at Zagreb (Z), because I don't believe he will be anywhere East of Zagreb area, Croatia. The West "border" Lyon, France. The North side just above Stuttgart and Munich, Germany. South border just below Rome, Italy. He really loves Italy. The furthest drive from any of these cities to Zagreb would be Stuttgart Germany and Lyon, France both an 11 hour drive. Rome is interesting because he can also drive to Ancona, Italy and take a ferry across the Adriatic Sea to Split, Croatia. Also, if he gets to Venice Italy there is a ferry he can take to Pula, Croatia. Thanks to the weak hold of the Russian government, Mr Bishop could just drive right though Slovenia (or fly there) and enter Croatia...why? Because chances are he has already done it as a trial run, made more friends in Croatia, maybe lived there a while and has a place he can get to if he has to hide out. But I don't think he lives there on a permanent basis. Split and Zagreb are his GET AWAY CITIES only.

So at this point if alive Mr Bishop is age 81 and will be 82 on Aug 1. He is less mobile, less flexible. He may be even less concerned about being caught as he was years back. He figures if they haven't caught him by now I am as good as dead to the FBI. The DB Cooper case was closed - the FBI just gave up. Perhaps they are satisfied after catching Whitey Bulger and The Golden State Killer. The FBI won't be able to find me here, in Europe. When has the FBI ever used up resources to capture an old man like me in Europe? When he was spotted in Basel Switzerland the FBI didn't even send one agent to check it out and according to the Swiss authorities they didn't even know who William Bradford Bishop was when asked what action they took when notified about the sighting. Besides the FBI is too busy with home grown terrorist and those other losers on the TOP 10 Most Wanted. Right? Mr Bishop might even be tied to a new family, wife, grown children, grandchildren (and they love grandpa), business, who knows? So where did Mr Bishop finally settle if in Europe? I put myself in his mind back in the late 1970's, when he was in his early 40's looking for a permanent "safe" home with great European culture.

More map speculation..Mr Bishop loved the out doors and big culture. Also, believe it or not... he loves people, lots of people and the admiration that comes from them...kinda like his dog Leo...why? Because they are the receptacle of his knowledge. It is a symbiotic relationship. He spews his knowledge and people tell him how smart he is. He over values himself in the world. The world needs him, the world(and his family) is nothing without him. So my belief is he doesn't want to be too far from Croatia. He needs to stay away from high tourist areas and strict police areas. I think he stays somewhat out of Italy knowing full well that everyone knows he loves it there. There are several Italian cities where he was stationed, attended school, military duty there too. Perhaps too many tourist and Foreign Service workers travel around Italy.

More Map Speculation...Lyon, France...maybe just a little too far from Zagreb and not as beautiful as say Florence, Italy. Switzerland...lots of police and immigrant laws and if he was ever captured there the Swiss would kick him to the curb in a heart beat. Still, he was seen in Basel, Switzerland. How about Salzburg, Austria. Well at age 40+, I don't see Bishop settling down in Salzburg. Salzburg is not as beautiful as Florence and does not have the culture of a city like Rome or Paris which are both too far from Zagreb. But I could see him in Vienna, Austria. But Austria does not have many immigrants. So when I see that, I feel there may be some type of anti-immigrant feelings that may be expressed by the police. The other thing about Vienna is there are a lot of tourist there too. TOURIST EQUATE TO RISK. The Maps below- The cleaner one and my original Map with notes. I use Google Maps to look at details. Map location Speculation. One of my top picks for Mr Bishop's location is Southern Germany, good economy, close to beautiful ski areas, forests, some tourist but most are in Berlin and Munich -not as many as France & Italy. And Germany loves immigrants. They have the most immigrants of any country in the EU. So if you look at Southern Germany, say around the Stuttgart area there are Universities, night life, not far from forest where Mr Bishop can play nature boy. He probably just walks his dog now. Besides, Mr Bishop even looks German and no doubt speaks German well. There are many immigrants in the German work force-some came when Yugoslavia was having their civil wars. Its a perfect set up. He could live in Southern Germany as a Croatian immigrant. So my picks for his whereabouts as follows : 1) Surrounding area of BASEL, Switzerland because he was spotted there in 1994, a very significant sighting at a time when he would most likely already be settled into his new life some 18 years after the crime. And Mr Bishop is confident the FBI could care less he is leading a new life there. The FBI didn't chase him down in 1994, they didn't send not one agent and probably don't care now. 2) SOUTHERN GERMANY, Stuttgart and the surrounding southern towns is where I would look for Mr Bishop also. 3) Northern ITALY would be my 3rd guess because he loves it so much, but it's a little more riskier for him. 4) As an outside shot, CALIFORNIA. And of course IF he is in the EU, his get away cities are Zagreb and Split Croatia. France gets honorable mention. Manage Attachments:

The Basel, Switzerland sighting is interesting. First, Mrs Wadsworth says Bishop was watching her husband from an adjacent train - this tells me Mr Bishop probably recognized his former neighbor. I am going to assume this occurred in the day time and in fair weather, spring/summer (his window was open). Now Mrs Wadsworth first reaction wasn't to warn her husband, it was visceral, she felt sick. It's very much like a reflex, you can not stop it nor control it. I know exactly how she felt, remember I mentioned my dream. It is a very ugly sick feeling. The Basel, Switzerland train station is a large station. You can go north into southern Germany and south into northern Italy, down to Rome or to Milan and Ancona. There are many trains, destination and people. I consider the Basel sighting valid. But it doesn't tell us exactly where Mr Bishop was going, north- south, east-west, going to work ? or wherever. But it does describe an arrogant Mr Bishop in 1994 who feels comfortable enough to ride a busy public train with no disguise, wearing reading glasses. He seemed easily recognizable at the age of 57. Mrs Wadsworth said, “The very next day I called the FBI. The last thing the guy said to me was, ‘That’s exactly the kind of place a fugitive would hang out.’ They never contacted me after that.” That's it, one discussion? And to conclude Mr Bishop was " hanging out " at the Basel train station in 1994 tells me there was a lack of appreciation for this very significant sighting. It was 18 years after the crime. By 1994 he is settled down already, in a comfortable routine. So what did the FBI do? Did they take any major action? Did they post his picture? Blast his picture over the T.V.? Did they interview anyone, ticket takers, conductors, view any CCTV etc? Did they plan an operation to catch him riding the trains? My guess is NO. I'm thinking they made a decision unless there were more sighting in this area they were not going to waste resources. If they did make that decision, it was a blunder. www.raileurope.com/place/basel-sbb Cities commonly traveled to from this station: This does not menton all the smaller town stops along the way to the desttinations cites. MR BISHOP'S FINANCES. Mr William Bradford Bishop Jr came from a middle class family. His father, Mr Bishop Sr. was an independent petroleum Geologist and his mother, Lobelia Amaryllis was a Hollywood wanna be. His father did some jobs for oil companies but he certainly was not rich. Now, I never ran across a picture of Bishop Sr other than what I believe is a wedding picture. No post- wedding pictures found so far. They were well off enough to have a "Father Knows Best " house in South Pasadena California and a housekeeper. Young Brad was an only child, perhaps intended. His parents loved him, you can tell by all the home movies. He was the center of their attention. Brad did well in High School and got into Yale University. But at Yale he was a "C " student. I am not exactly sure how much it cost to go to Yale 1954-58, but I am guessing tuition was about $2000/year (now about $70,000) and of course that does not include housing, food, books etc. In his last year he had to come home and work due to his family having financial problems. He eventually graduated with a BA in American Studies June 8, 1959. He was in the US Army Aug 1959 to Aug 1963 discharged a Staff Sergeant, E6. He was not an Officer. Once he got into the State Dept his salary was approx $25,962/yr. But he had a house (his mother helped him purchase it), a non-working wife, mother and three growing young boys to support. It has been shown the most expensive child to raise is a young teenage boy because of the amount of food they eat and clothing they require. And Mr Bishop had 3 of them. His oldest son slept on a mattress on the floor. He got in trouble with the IRS prior to the crime too. He probably got behind on his taxes, understandable with a large family. Now just prior to the crime he withdrew cash from American Security Bank in Washington, DC. He wrote himself a check for $400 made out to "Cash". As far as I know that was the last check he wrote. Then he made some purchases - shovel, pitchfork, gas can, small sledge hammer and topped off his station wagon. After he buried the bodies and put them to flame he purchased tennis shoes with his credit card. That was the last time he used it. Then he drove to the Great Smoky Mountains and dropped off his car. So what is my point...HE WAS CASH POOR, otherwise, why not write a check at his bank for a lot more than $400...Because he had none. He was paid approx $1080 every 2 weeks by the US Gov and he would have been paid the previous Friday, Feb 27th 1976. So where did his money go? I am thinking it was garnished by the IRS or his wife used it for bills. There is no mention of a large cash withdrawal prior to the crime, except for the $400. Did he have enough money to buy airfare to Europe? In 1976 that ticket would have cost him a good $400 if not more. There is no mention of savings or other checking account withdrawal or other credit card use under his name except those already mentioned. The only way he could have purchased the airfare was using a phony check, phony credit card and of course, a phony Passport / I.D. I believe all of which he probably made or obtained prior to the crime. But his lack of cash makes for a better case that he didn't fly out of the USA immediately, but drove to his next destination eg, Mexico, California or Canada etc.

Let's look at some facial pictures. I am thinking these are wedding pictures and perhaps on his honeymoon at some ocean resort. They got married in San Clemente, California August 2, 1959. The beach picture is actually a video and Annette (not pictured) is standing to his right. Most likely before he enters the military, note very minimal defined upper body musculature.

I have never seen a picture of Mr Bishop in a Army uniform. The top & middle pictures could be his military era pictures. He looks young, stern and very clean shaven. Since his earliest listed assignment is Aug to Oct 1959 Fort Benning, Georgia , quickly after his wedding I am assuming it was his 8 week Boot Camp stint. In Oct 1959 to June 1960 (8 months) he was stationed at Fort Holabird, Baltimore Maryland at The U.S. Army Intelligence School. Age in 1959, 23.

Earlier family photos - It is easy to identify Brenton, the middle child of the family-born 1965, because he has very blonde hair. So in 1965 Mr Bishop was 29. Mr Bishop joined the State Dept Foreign Service Officer August 1965. In Dec 1965 Mr Bishop was assigned to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as a Junior Officer where I believe the bottom picture was taken.

Here he is a little older. The pictures are in no particular order, but probably in the early mid 70's, note the long sideburns in style during that time period. The bottom picture is good because it shows his hair and eye color fairly well.
