WHAT KIND OF GUY IS MR BISHOP?...P2 cont'd...A "C" average will never get you into any medical school. So now his new dream was to become a diplomat by age 50. In his early career with the State Department he zoomed up in rank bragging about every promotion - that gave him a "high". When he was in Botswana he had to get his pilots license. But it only temporarily satisfied him. His last few years in the State Department were stagnant. He was an action junky without action. No more promotions...no more highs. This is consistent with getting one college degree after another, it gave him a sense of betterment. He was much like an amphetamine addict with no drugs, the withdrawal is depression which is exactly why Mr Bishop was seeing a psychiatrist who diagnosed the symptoms, but I doubt truly understood the cause. Sitting behind a desk was killing Mr Bishop, especially being a globetrotter, action addict, risk taker like himself. Also, the risky affairs he had was probably him seeking excitement. It had nothing to do with love of a new women. One of his co-workers mentioned he had a demeaning way of speaking about others. He was know to be contemptuous as well as arrogant at work. This makes a lot of sense. Again, this is much like an addict with no drugs or an alcoholic living on an island with no alcohol. Being demeaning of others is called "taking the inventory of others"- looking at all their faults instead of realizing your own faults ie, your own inventory. In general, it's called a "dry drunk" attitude. Mr Bishop, despite being a very smart fellow, was missing something most psychopaths can't figure out...the insight and desire to change.

WHAT KIND OF GUY IS MR BISHOP?...P3 cont'd...At the State Dept Mr Bishop made $25,962 per year, but that was stretched by the family of 6. There was criticism from his wife & mother, IRS problems, bad evaluations, mistakes on the job like losing his State Department Passport in Botswana and a Security Violation (probably minor), his co-workers didn't like him (he dumped last minute work on their desks at the end of the day), medical clearance issues (heart murmur) in the past, emotional outbursts, psychiatric treatment for anxiety-depression, severe insomnia and he was not promoted at least once if not twice. Also, the entire family pushed back the idea to move again for a foreign assignment which Mr Bishop badly wanted. He felt he could be easily promoted with another foreign assignment. He was desperate for his "high" and it became too much to bear. But for Mr Bishop this did not become a "nervous breakdown" or a suicidal gesture. He was a narcissist and what narcissist do best is to project the blame on others. The hierarchy of blame started at home. His 14 year old son. His first son was traumatized the worst of the family. Some theorized his son William may have tried to fight him off, but I am thinking Mr Bishop felt the most betrayed by his first son. His first son should have been his greatest admirer. His greatest supporter, but his son William probably took his mothers side and didn't want to move again either. So for that he gets beat beyond recognition, his face smashed in with a sledge hammer. Remember, " The crime hides the Truth ". The difficulties seemed to expose the real Mr Bishop. In the State Dept you are promoted or painfully and slowly let go. He failed his first goal of going to medical school and now was never going to become a Diplomat by age 50. He knew it. He figured his days in the Foreign Service office were numbered. The blame was very clear in his mind.

Well Mr Bishop took a huge risk to kill his family, driven by anger and hate. He is all powerful. He told his psychiatrist he was " deep into the CIA ", but most evidence shows he had limited "spy" experience at best. And he is too narcissistic to kill himself otherwise why drive all the way to the Smoky Mountains to commit suicide. In his mind he was unappreciated for his incredible accomplishments and superior knowledge of the world by the State Dept and his family. Getting put behind a desk in the State Dept was a waste of his talents and great skills. He hated that and his family didn't care, they weren't going to move again for a foreign assignment he desperately wanted. It would be easier to get promoted on a foreign assignment. His children probably loved their new friends and schools and took their mother's side on the foreign assignment issue. He supported the entire family, but was humiliated and embarrassed every time he looked at his check book. He deserved more advancement. He loved the culture of the world where he felt superior, could talk on any topic, be the center of attention, be the important guy in charge of "the mission", the one people came to for help or favors he could grant. His makeup is very much like a European, speaking many languages, loves to travel from country to country, loves the outdoors and now to go along with that he probably hates the USA too. He had a cultural education that took years of hard work, but here in the USA he is pushing papers in D.C. going nowhere. He had a temper too and that may have made his superiors think twice about his diplomatic career. He could see the writing on the wall after missing promotions. He was being handed his hat and he knew it. He was behind on his taxes and soon he would be 40 with no job.

CRAZY? P1 NO. I don't think Mr Bishop " snapped ". I think he had the murders somewhat planned out in his head, like an "outline" for several weeks if not months is my guess. And I wouldn't be surprised if he had multiple false passports to aid his escape, those took time to make. That is pure premeditation along with his purchases of a pitch fork, shovel, gas can, sledge hammer and gasoline. He also withdrew money from the bank. And some might suggest using a sledge hammer was also premeditation. It is silent so the neighbors didn't hear anything. Recall he owned a 38 S&W revolver, but didn't use it. The actual murders were not planned out well, but his escape was perfection. For sure he had financial problems as I previously mentioned, the IRS was on his case. His oldest son William slept on a mattress on the floor. And it is very expensive to buy clothes and food for 3 young growing boys not to mention all their activities. There was never any mention of drugs/addictions, or issues with his wife or of her cheating on him. The so-called "dark skinned lady " he was seen with in Jacksonville NC, has never been thoroughly explained. Perhaps she ended up taking Leo. But the FBI says it discovered through witness interviews that Bishop engaged in multiple affairs prior to killing his wife, something the agency said it had not previously known.

CRAZY? P2 Mr Bishops Washington D.C. Psychiatrist was Dr. Frank Caprio, now deceased. He was treating Mr Bishop for Insomnia, Depression and Anxiety. When the FBI tried to interview him he refused to cooperate, citing "doctor-patient privilege." Hard to believe this doctor would not cooperate with the FBI after Mr Bishop crushes the skulls of his family members. So there are no public mental health records available, at least none were released. It's possible the FBI have the records. Dr Caprio apparently was so upset about the murders he quit his practice. To me this is odd. If the Psychiatrist had no knowledge of Mr Bishop's intentions then he would not have felt so guilty about the crime. Mr Bishop kept a journal and one line mentions " Toxic, degenerate psychoses with confabulation. Chronic, low-level maniac involutional megalomania.Feb. 27, 1967." Wiki: ""In psychiatry, confabulation (verb: confabulate) is a disturbance of memory, defined as the production of fabricated, distorted, or misinterpreted memories about oneself or the world, without the conscious intention to deceive. People who confabulate present incorrect memories ranging from "subtle alterations to bizarre fabrications", and are generally very confident about their recollections, despite contradictory evidence. "". In other words they make up crap they even believe. "I am deep in the CIA".
These descriptions are not common layman knowledge, even for a smart guy like Mr Bishop. I can only speculate he heard this description from a mental health provider. My SPECULATIVE QUESTION is did Mr Bishop discuss his intentions with a psychiatrist, ie to murder his entire family? I can see a doctor attributing these threats to Mr Bishop's Diagnosis of Toxic, degenerate psychoses with confabulation. Chronic, low-level maniac involutional megalomania. It's a question I think should be asked, though we will never know the answer unless the records exist and are released.

So Mr Bishop dropped off the station wagon probably about Mar 15, 1976 in the Great Smokey Mountains. As a guess 75% chance he goes to the airport and flew to Europe. 25% chance he drives to his next destination. Speculating about the latter, I am thinking he drives towards Calif or Mexico....? Canada? At any point if he went to Mexico he could have easily crossed the border in Texas and hit Mexico City BEFORE they even found his car on Mar 18, 1976. My thinking is if he went to Mexico it is not his final destination. He most likely would either return to the USA (California) after things cooled off using one of his false passports or perhaps he most likely flew to Europe at some point.

EUROPEAN ESCAPE SPECULATION P1-Let us speculate Mr Bishop flew to Europe after dropping off his car. Once he gets to Europe there is a certain amount of stress lifted off his mind. But he's still in survival mode. He is out of the USA and by the time he gets to Europe on or about March 15-16, flying out of Atlanta International Airport the bloody station wagon was not even discovered yet. Detectives may even still be thinking he is headed south, Georgia or Florida. I would speculate he would not have felt that comfortable in England. England is tied closely to the USA and they would extradite him for this crime in a hot minute. He would have been scouring the newspapers as soon as he got off the plane...and found not one mention of his crime. It's almost like it never happened. He would have to keep moving though. He is on familiar ground getting more comfortable. Now fine tuning his lies. This guy put some thought and preparation into his get away and it paid off. Perhaps there is some rambling around Europe trying to find his footing making a little money here and there. Traveling around Europe was easy and to some extent fun for him to be on his own, maybe even playing spy in his mind. A spy on the run, looking for cover, covering his tracks. All he needs now is a Walther PPK. He can now turn on the charm to any people he comes in contact with in any of 5 languages. He can fall right into their expectations. An absolute perfect get away.

SIGHTINGS P1 mentioned on Wikipedia and discussed in detail in the " Vanished " video and many other sources : "" Since 1976 Bishop has been allegedly sighted numerous times: Belgium, England, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The three sightings noted by the United States Marshals Service are as follows:
In July 1978, Bishop was seen by an acquaintance of the Bishop family in Stockholm, Sweden
In January 1979, Bishop was seen in a water closet in Sorrento, Italy by a co-worker who had worked closely with him at the State Department. Bishop ran when hailed by the co-worker.
On September 19, 1994 on a Basel, Switzerland train platform, a neighbor who knew Bishop and his family in Bethesda reported that she saw Bishop from a few feet away. "" " Sept. 19, 1994, came a credible sighting in Basel, Switzerland. Jean Wadsworth, now 87 and living in a King Farm retirement community in Rockville, was a former neighbor who knew Annette as “a good tennis player” from watching her on the next court. Wadsworth and her husband were at the train station in Basel when she noticed someone watching her husband from a train on the adjoining track. “All of sudden this sick feeling came over me,” she says. “I realized it was Bradford Bishop.” The man “immediately closed the window, put on specs and opened up his newspaper,” Wadsworth says. “His train started to move just as ours came in. As his window passed us, he was looking anxiously out and laughed as he went past our window. "

SIGHTINGS P2 I believe the significant sightings are the 3 listed in 1978 Stockholm , 1979 Sorrento and 1994 Basel. My first comment regarding these 3 sightings is I absolutely do not believe the Sorrento, Italy sighting by Mr Roy Harrell(RIP). It has been discounted by many people searching for Mr Bishop. I am not sure about the Stockholm, Sweden sighting, I am thinking it could be a valid sighting. It sounds plausible. The thing that is concerning is the bearded Mr Bishop was spotted by a past co-worker who saw him in a park, she is 75% sure. She " established eye contact", but then says she saw him again 3 days later. To me that is the unbelievable part, the 2nd sighting. I would like to know at which sighting she had eye to eye contact with Mr Bishop-the 1st sighting or the 2nd or both. My point is if she established eye contact at the first sighting then I believe Mr Bishop would not have returned to the park 3 days later. No way. He would have recognized her too. Although he is a risk taker, he's not stupid. The Basel, Switzerland sighting seems very plausible and fits in well with my speculation where Mr Bishop might be living. Consider, if you discount the Sorrento sighting then the significant sightings are Stockholm 1978 and Basel 1994, 16 years later. I wish I had more info about the many other sightings, locations, time and dates.

Mr Bishop is most likely in Europe...as a best guess anyway. His known travels out of the USA : Canada 1948, Mexico 1954, Cuba 1956, Canada 1956, Jamaica 12/1956-1/1957, Germany 1961-63(US Army), France/Austria/Switzerland 1961-63(Travel during US Army), Italy 1961-64(US Army-Study), Yugoslavia- probably the most interesting travel Mr Bishop's did March-April 1964 for 16days. Washington DC doing his Foreign Service Office training October-December 1965(FSO). Ethiopia 1965-67(FSO), Egypt & Greece 1967, Milan Italy 1958-69(FSO), Calif 1970-71 UCLA Study(FSO). Washington DC 1971-72 Botswana 1971-74, Washington DC 1974-76, Geneva, Switzerland Jan 27-Feb 6 1976 (Meeting).

When I looked at Mr Bishop's travels the Cuba visit stood out as odd, but I believe Cuba in 1956 was not exactly Communist just yet. It was some type of corrupt country but not communist. I suppose many visited the Casinos and clubs back then. Mr Bishop was 19 years old when he went to Cuba on spring break Mar-Apr 1956. But his visit to Communist Yugoslavia March-April 1964 was very unusual especially when you consider he was married with a child, left the US Army 8 months prior Aug '63 and had just taken the State Dept. written exam earlier that same month March 1964. What was he thinking? The Cold War with Russia was ongoing... I mean the Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis of 1962 was not that long ago at that time. Good grief.

EUROPEAN ESCAPE SPECULATION P2: So where did Mr Bishop go? We really don't know. But did he go to Yugoslavia...again? He actually went to Yugoslavia for several weeks in Spring 1964, 8 months after separation from active duty. He has a listed "friend", Peter Karan in Split, Yugoslavia (Croatia now). The State Dept was not pleased- Mr John St.Denis wrote in a Security Evaluation for Mr Bishop dated April 16, 1965..."Candidate traveled to Yugoslavia for several weeks in spring 1964...However, it was not particular discreet in view of Candidates specific duty assignments from 1961-63. What is more important, Candidate did not appear to even consider that such a trip could have disastrous personal and international consequences." Mr Bishop was an action junky, a huge risk taker and I am sure it was sneaking into a Communist country that really excited him, visiting a friend was secondary. He was playing spy. Back to his escape in 1976, Yugoslavia was Communist controlled. Even if he had a false passport it would be only a matter of time before he would be figured out there. The thing about Yugoslavia is it was composed of many groups and autonomous provinces-Croats, Serbs, Albanians in Kosovo etc. It seemed like every group wanted its own country and identity. Yugoslavia was headed for political unrest and each province suspicious of the other. People suspicious of their neighbors and Communist. So my feeling is Mr Bishop would be found out at some point. Especially, when he would go looking for a job. How silly would it be if he is in Yugoslavia on a eg, Italian passport? Recall Italy was part of the WW2 Axis Powers. If you think he was befriended by the Communist as a US Defector, well that wouldn't last long. He had basically nothing to offer them. Although he had a "Secret Clearance" granted Nov 9, 1959 he knew very little Top Secret material if at all...how to make a false passport?...not worth a penny. He had no knowledge of our defense systems, nuclear secrets, spy planes, space programs, satellites, science etc. They could extract the extent of his knowledge in 1 hour. But the one thing Yugoslavia does offer him is...he could not be extradited from Yugoslavia back to the USA. But is it a safe haven? I doubt he would feel comfortable being there in 1976, if captured he could be charged as a spy and executed or imprisoned for life and I am fairly sure he was well aware of that high risk since he worked for the State Dept. So I don't believe Yugoslavia would be his first choice to start anew in 1976. Also, there was much turmoil in the years to come, ethnic & economic. Life was so much easier and safer in many other European countries at that time. So I think < 10% chance he entered Yugoslavia then and tried to build a life there. But as it turns out, time was his friend.

A little off topic- Former Yugoslavia...is now (From North to South) Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia. Of these countries formerly part of Yugoslavia the USA does NOT have extradition treaties with the following countries:
Croatia Bosnia and Herzegovina Serbia Montenegro Kosovo and Macedonia
Surprisingly, the USA has an extradition treaty with Slovenia-the most northern of the Yugoslavia countries. So if Mr Bishop was trying to get to Croatia and he gets stopped at the Italian-Slovenia border crossing for weapons violation or a false passport, Slovenia might turn him over to eg, Italy who might figure out who he is. Now if Slovenia figured out he was a US citizen they could turn him over to US officials even if they didn't know his crime. Mr Bishop has to get into Croatia to avoid extradition.

European Map : Again, we don't know where Mr Bishop is. This is pure speculation for the most part, but we do know he visited many of these cities in red. The " C" is Courmayeur, Italy which is a ski resort he was seen at with a light complected woman Jan 25, 1976 (Recall the crime occurred Mar 1, 1976). The next day he had a meeting in Geneva. I doubt anyone would describe Mr Bishop's wife, Mrs Annette Bishop, as a " light complected women ", so I believe this was another woman perhaps one Mr Bishop met in Geneva. We know Mr Bishop visited Yugoslavia in 1964 and that he had a friend in Split, now Croatia. So I am going to assume he visited his friend in Split in 1964 and got there via ferry from Ancona, Italy (red dashes) across the Adriatic Sea. If he was in Northern Italy and was going to Yugoslavia (?Croatia) he would have to go though a border crossing and perhaps several check points especially if he was going all the way to Split, multiple checks. It's a long 10+ hour drive. I am just guessing Mr Bishop takes the ferry, it takes about 11+ hours but is more relaxing. The "Z" is Zagreb, Croatia and the "S" is Slovenia, the main city in Slovenia is Ljubljana, approx where the blue dot is. CROATIA IS HIS SAFE HAVEN. Attachments:

So, recall my belief IF Mr Bishop is still alive, close to 25% chance he is in the USA hiding in plain site and 75% chance he is in Europe. I believe Mr Bishop went to EU but did not settle in the former Yugoslavia permanently. But, Yugoslavia is still a place he would be attracted to because as time rolled on Communist Russia lost their strong hold on Yugoslavia and the country divided up AND most of those countries have no extradition treaty with the USA. Also recall Mr Bishop spoke English, Spanish, Italian, French and Serbo-Croatian. I am fairly certain Mr Bishop spoke German too. He spent over a year in Germany while in the Military. This makes sense, German is way easier to learn than Serbo-Croatian especially for a polyglot like Mr Bishop. I think it's a reasonable assumption that Mr Bishop could easily learn and speak German.
